Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a debilitating illness that impacts between seven to ten million people in the U.S.  Common symptoms of Fibromyalgia are:  chronic widespread pain, body and mind fatigue, sleep disorders, irritable bowels, memory and concentration difficulties, chronic headaches, TMJ, anxiety and depression.  Typical conventional medical treatment will include anti-depressants, muscle relaxants and painkillers.

Unfortunately, this illness is frequently misdiagnosed and under-recognized.  It is often referred to as “The Invisible Disease” because it’s sufferers do not look ill.  Abnormalities do not appear in any blood test, x-ray, thyroid test, HIV test, liver scan, MRI, or CT scan. Symptoms are felt throughout the entire body, but traditional medical tests are usually negative.  Sufferers are often misdiagnosed with hypochondria, Alzheimer, or other psychological problems which leads to depression and despair.

When the immune system is compromised through illness, stress, injury, or unhealthy lifestyle choices, the progression of disease may lead to Fibromyalgia.  The symptoms may have become so debilitating that it impacts every facet of a person’s life.  The only way to end Fibromyalgia and its symptoms is to assist the body in healing itself.  This can be accomplished through dedicated lifestyle changes that allow the body to rebuild and heal.  Once the challenge is clear, Eden offers natural solutions with the possibility of having reduced symptoms or being symptom free within six months or less.

The Eden & M’lis Perspective
Researchers do not agree on the cause of Fibromyalgia.  A viable theory that is supported by research as well as by the personal experiences of Linda T. Nelson, ND, PhD, M’lis Company founder, is that Fibromyalgia is not caused by one factor, but by a combination of lifetime symptom suppression and disease progression.

We believe that the progression of Fibromyalgia begins with the chicken pox virus (HHV6) very early in life.  The virus becomes dormant in the body, waiting until the immune system is depleted to reactivate it into the next stage.  Over many years, a person may experience different levels of disease progression from cold sores or herpes, to shingles or mononucleosis to Epstein-Barr or chronic fatigue.  Some or all of the above illness may be experienced before the onset of Fibromyalgia.  If the virus is not eradicated completely from the body at the time it manifests, the body will store it until later.  Unfortunately, current treatment of this illness is to take drugs which will stuff the symptoms until a later date.

Fortunately the medical community is starting to recognize and understand the existence of Fibromyalgia.  The American College of Rheumatology published the 1990 Criteria for the Classification of Fibromyalgia.  The article identifies the eighteen tender points in the body.  The only way to receive an accurate diagnosis is if pain is caused by gentle pressure on a minimum of 11 of the 18 points.  A trained Eden Wellness Mentor can assist with this type of screening.
